The pineal gland is the organ with the highest blood supply, only surpassed by the kidneys. For a good reason: the pineal gland relies on feedback from the body. With the help of the blood, the fluid of the cerebrospinal cord (liquor) with its photoreceptors (light-sensitive layer, visual cells) passes through the whole body. In this way, the pineal gland can absorb information from everywhere. It's as if it had “eyes” everywhere. In this way, it can affect DNA repair, the musculoskeletal system and the microbiome (all of the microorganisms in the body). Even epigenetic elements are regulated through it.

With age, the pineal gland shrinks and calcifies, which leads to a decreased functionality. Eventually, other structures have to take over the tasks of the pineal gland, which in the long term leads to wear and tear and exhaustion.

For a long time, experts assumed that this was due to ageing. It is now becoming increasingly clear that it could be the result of collective, non-natural behavior. And this fact makes this process reversible.

We can detoxify our pineal gland, we can decalcify it, we can help it grow and function better. This is all the more important when we realize that it is outside the blood-brain barrier, even though it is located in the middle of the brain. What does this mean? Because the blood-brain barrier is in charge of protecting the brain from harmful substances. Shouldn't the pineal gland also get this special protection? Mainly because it is such an important organ. The answer is simple. This is the only way it can be in direct contact with all structures of the body and the immune system.

Essentially this means we have to protect it ourselves through a mindful lifestyle and regular detoxification.

All hormonal processes in the body are run by the pineal gland. Thus, the pineal gland inevitably affects the central nervous system, the autonomic nervous system, the immune system and the endocrine system. Because every messenger substance of these systems is also effective in the respective other system. So it literally calibrates the entire body. In addition to largely unknown neuropeptides (messenger substances released by nerve cells), the pineal gland releases melatonin. It not only provides the body with a sleep hormone, but also with a powerful antioxidant. It affects all hormones, synchronizes the body rhythms and affects the aging process. As if that weren't enough, melatonin is an integral part of the serotonin cycle. The excess serotonin becomes melatonin at night and the excess melatonin becomes serotonin with daylight. The production of both active ingredients is based on light and has a complex effect in the body. It is precisely this dependence on light that qualifies the pineal gland as a chronobiological organ of rhythm, and without rhythm there is no healthy life.

In addition to melatonin, the pineal gland also produces DMT (dimethyltryptamine), a hallucinogenic substance that can also be found, for example, in ayahuasca (vegetable stock). The body's own production is quickly broken down again, so it cannot be compared with drugs. But under extreme conditions, the pineal gland releases more DMT than usual.

To distinguish the body's own DMT from its synthetic derivatives, it is called METAtonin. It is structurally similar to serotonin, a powerful antioxidant and can be considered a little cousin of melatonin. While melatonin is active during sleep, METAtonin develops its effect to modify our brain connections in the mindful state, it takes care of their reprogramming. With high performance, during meditation or visualization, more of it is being released. Interesting: The pineal gland can produce both melatonin and METAtonin at the same time.

Like any gland, the pineal gland reacts to environmental influences. In particular, fluorides, herbicides (weed killers), pesticides and phthalates (plasticizers for plastics) put a strain on the pineal gland. Not all of these influences can be completely avoided, but the burden can be reduced. There is fluoride-free toothpaste, organic foods and both plastic and plasticizers can be largely avoided. Chaga tea has been shown to detoxify the pineal gland (250 ml daily). Chaga is a medicinal mushroom that supports the entire body with its high-quality ingredients, supports detoxification and improves creation of melatonin.

Our behavior has a significant influence on the condition and function of the pineal gland. Our sleep-wake rhythm can be adjusted in this way. The chronobiology of the body asks for the first light of the morning sun and the last light of the evening sun as stimulants in order to be in natural rhythm. Too much technical radiation reduces the release of melatonin. Eating too late and too much coffee have the same effect. Regulation of the entire body is adjusted by the pineal gland, depending on our lifestyle. Our intestinal health also has a significant impact. Because melatonin is also produced in the so-called enterochromaffin cells of the intestinal mucosa. In this respect, our eating habits are an integral part of our pineal function. You can use the following rule of thumb: as fresh as possible, as colorful as possible, organically grown, self-cooked and low sugar.

Our everyday life is full of exposure to sources of technical radiation. These are still challenging our system because we are still in the middle of adaptation. In a few decades, our bodies will have changed. Until then, our cell membranes are suffering and we require more trace elements. That is the price for this technical advance. In this respect, conscious use of smartphones and other devices with technical radiation is even more important, not just for the pineal gland. Try to reduce the time spent on these devices. Turn them off. Even the WiFi can be switched off overnight. Your pineal gland will thank you.

Blue light also has an adverse effect. On the one hand, this applies to screens, tablets and smartphones; on the other hand, our LED light sources are a source of increased levels of blue light. A simple remedy is to use yellow light. Fire, candlelight and older LEDs are suitable for this. There are also eyeglass lenses available with an integrated blue light filter. Even yellow lamp shades can be supportive.

Our thoughts also have a direct influence on the function of the pineal gland. Imaging procedures show how a negative thought literally "switches off" the pineal gland - and does so immediately. Conversely, a positive thought turns them on again.

So we can activate this important organ with our thoughts. Knowing this, our day should start and end with a nice image in mind. Meditation and exercise in nature also contribute to these positive elements.
